Local search from mobile devices continues to trend up. Compete, a Kantar Media company, released the results of its Q1 2010 Smartphone Intelligence survey today. The results of the survey suggest good marketing opportunities for local business.
The survey shows a pronounced uptake in the use of smartphones for local search, social networking and mobile gaming.
A few compelling mobile local search findings …
- One in three smartphone users have called or visited a local business after finding that business using a local search application.
- Almost one third of Android and iPhone users discovered two or more new businesses they were not previously familiar with as a result of using local search applications from their smartphone devices.
As a local retailer, you’ll want to leverage these growing local search trends. You can start by making sure your web site is properly enabled and optimized for mobile browsers.
Using smartphones for Twitter and Facebook on the rise …
The survey indicates consumers are using their smartphones more and more as part of their online social routine. Compete’s findings show 33 percent of respondents using Twitter from their smartphones are sending tweets predominantly from their mobile devices. And roughly the same 1/3 of users prefer to read tweets from their smartphone.
Almost 2/3 of users accessing Facebook from their smartphone devices are using the device to read news feeds, post status updates, and send/receive private messages.
Given the increasing popularity of social networking sites and the growing trend of mobile access, local retail business has a clear marketing opportunity by making sure they incorporate social marketing including Twitter and Facebook into their overall marketing efforts.
